I’ve never planted sunflowers before.
This year I decided to try, you can imagine how excited I was to see this!
Funny how some things just stick out to me in a such a neat way. I love it when something I hadn’t planned on all of a sudden becomes a life lesson for my soul.
It began when I looked up some information on Sunflowers, to learn a little more before I planted them.
This is what I read.
“Sunflowers are heliotropic, which means that they turn their flowers to follow the movement of the Sun across the sky east to west, and then returns at night to face the east, ready again for the morning sun. Heliotropism happens during the earlier stages before the flower grows heavy with seeds.”
This immediately touched my heart and made me smile as I thought about those little flower faces following the sun across the sky. It was as if God was speaking to my heart…saying learn from this flower….follow me. Look to my SON for life. Keep your eye on Him all day long, follow him. Look to him when you rise in the morning until you retire for the evening. Then, do it the next morning….and the next…and the next.
But don’t be like the older flower that fails to keep following the sun because it is to burdensome, because it takes too much effort and energy.
You, continue on, follow my Son all the days of your life. There you will find warmth and happiness and you will continue to grow, maturing and developing seeds to share with others, plant those seeds along life’s way.
I will give you the strength to keep following. Even when life gets hard and sometimes things seem like they take too much effort. When it’s easier to just take in the good and do nothing in return, you, keep your eyes on my Son.
So, I smiled in my heart as I took in this lesson and I’m pretty sure I smiled outwardly as I stood there alone in my little garden, hoe in one hand and seeds in the other.
So, I planted those sunflower seeds one by one into the dirt and He planted His seeds into my heart.
I can’t wait to watch Him grow them both.
