Today….I ponder.

It’s hard to believe but it has been three years since I started this blog.

Where has the time gone?

Just a few days ago it was Christmas, now it’s already New Years day!

Everything seems to be moving in warp speed.

We have had wonderful gatherings with friends and family, but as usual it is impossible to visit with everyone.

As the holidays approached I couldn’t help thinking about celebrating Christmas as a child.

I fondly remember certain traditions taking place in our home.  Somehow Mom managed to buy or make gifts that fit each of our personalities. Wrapping every one, even the smallest stocking stuffer.  Of course she loved cooking our favorite foods, which I still can taste today.  I stand amazed at all the things she accomplished during the busy season.   It seems that no matter how crazy it got, she was…. still…..excited about Christmas!

On Christmas Eve, the hustle and bustle would come to a halt.   We would all settle into the living room and find a comfortable seat.  Mom would usually turn to the gospel of Luke, reading the Christmas story would remind us of why we celebrate.   Often she would get choked up as she read the beautiful love story.  She would be totally overwhelmed by God’s amazing love.

I seem to drift back to those days as I hear the old favorite carols and enjoy the soft lights from the Christmas trees.

Christmas still occurs on schedule but the names and faces of those I spend it with constantly change from year to year.

Yes, a lot of things change….

BUT, I am reminded that there is one thing that remains the same.

Isaiah 40:8-The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

God’s word does not change.

God’s gift to us, was His son Jesus.

It is the only gift that was and is perfect for every person and every personality.

I love the verse that is found in Luke 2:19 ….” Mary pondered these things in her heart”.

All the things that took place at His birth,  she pondered them in her heart.  I can’t even imagine the amazing things she must have witnessed.

There are other events listed in scripture too….. where she paused….. and pondered.   I imagine she too was overwhelmed by God’s gift of love to humanity.

The hustle and bustle of the season has subsided.  Today is not only the start of a new day, but the start of a new year.

With the calm of today…I can’t help but ponder.  What will I do with this great gift God has given me?

I will share it in all I do and say….after all the best gifts are the ones we share with one another.

Happy New Year!
